Creating scratchboard art, I think of myself more as a sculptor as I remove the ink from the board to slowly reveal the image. I work on detail and nuance to bring the work to a high degree of realism. The art form lends itself so well to wild life because the different blades, techniques and the right amount of pressure etching each line can result in life-like fur, feathers, eyes, etc. Hearing someone say that the work looks almost 3-D is a real compliment. Watching them smile and connect with my art makes it all worthwhile.
